Our culture school trip to France goes far beyond the typical Paris visit, taking students on a journey through three of France’s most iconic cities – Paris, Lyon, and Marseille – to explore the heart of French identity. In Paris, students dive into history, politics, and the arts through university lectures, live performances, and landmark visits. In Lyon, they connect with literature and nature, from reading Le Petit Prince to hiking a volcano. The trip ends in sunny Marseille, where students discover France’s Mediterranean culture through markets, historic sites, and hands-on workshops. A vibrant mix of tradition and modernity, this tour brings French culture to life.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: The Eiffel Tower

Students can start their French adventure off, as they arrive at Gare du Nord/Charles de Gaulle airport and hop on public transport to their hotel. On the way, the Learning Adventure guide will give everyone some fascinating general knowledge about the area and get students up to speed with trip rules and safety guidelines.

Once students have checked into the hotel, it’s time to start exploring! For their first activity, students will take a boat ride along the River Seine, they will then stop off to climb the Eiffel Tower. This is a perfect chance for students to look out onto the city they are about to explore.

In the evening, soak in the beautiful view of the iconic Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero esplanade at sunset and watch it twinkle as it lights up. Students will then end the day feasting on a well-earned welcome dinner.

Day 2: Sorbonne University Lecture

This morning, students will start their day with a city tour to stop off at all of Paris’ must-sees, like the Notre Dame, Latin Quarter, Place de la Concorde, la Concergerie, Avenue des Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Sainte Chapelle, Place Vendôme, Le pont de l’Alma (Lady Di memorial) and Port de La Bourdonnais.

Get ready, it’s going to be an intellectual afternoon. Head for Sorbonne University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, to take a tour and take notes at a lecture.

Get ready to laugh out loud at a stand-up comedy show in English, performed by a French comedian.

Day 3: Art & Politics

This morning, students dive into French art at the iconic Louvre – the world’s largest museum! With masterpieces from prehistory to modern day, there’s too much to see in one trip. Here, students can enjoy a fast-paced Learning Adventure scavenger hunt to find the most legendary works!

Next, students will dive into the dynamic world of modern French politics. They’ll hear firsthand from a member of the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest movement) or En Marche, gaining real insight into the issues shaping France today.

Savour a delicious dinner in the lively Montparnasse district, then head to the top of the Montparnasse Tower to watch the sun set over Paris with breathtaking panoramic views.

Day 4: French Miming

It’s time for students to test out their language skills as they haggle for some last-minute souvenirs at the flea markets of Saint-Ouen.

Step into the world of silent storytelling with a French mime masterclass – uncovering the rich history behind this iconic art form.

It’s the final night in Paris! Students can celebrate the end of this unforgettable chapter with a special farewell dinner in true Parisian style.

Day 5: Lyon Time

This morning, students will embark on a 2-hour journey to Lyon, where they be will spending the next couple of days. Once students have checked into their accommodation, they will take a city tour to see the highlights of Lyon. On this city tour, students can listen to a reading of Le Petit Prince next to his statue and discuss the philosophy behind it.

Enjoy a classic dish in a boucherie.

Day 6: Grotte de Choranche Cave

Today, students will journey to the stunning Grotte de Choranche, a hidden cave gem nestled south of Lyon. Here, they will discover the secrets of its underground rivers, crystal-clear lakes, and dramatic stalactites.

Later, they will enjoy dinner in Lyon while soaking up stories of the city’s rich history and iconic architecture.

Day 7: Volcano Hike

Drive to the Puy de Domes volcano, one of the youngest lava domes in the region. Students will have the chance to challenge themselves to hike to the summit, whilst enjoying the views of other volcanoes along the way. After the hike, students can cool off by swimming in the crater lake of the beautiful Lac Pavin.

Day 8: Bonjour, Marseille!

It’s time to travel to Marseille, the multicultural second biggest city in France.

Once students are all settled in, they will be introduced to Marseille with a walking tour of the city to learn about the history of migration.

Later in the day, learn about the famous Savon de Marseille soap from a museum and factory on the port. Students can even personalise their own soap to show everyone back home!

Day 9: Chateau d’If

For their final full day, students will head to the Chateau d’If, the fortress turned prison that inspired Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo.

It’s time to practise their French skills as they pick up some last-minute souvenirs in the local markets.

To end their trip to France, students can admire the sunset from the Jardin du Pharo with fantastic views of the city.

Day 10: Home Time

It might be home time, but it’s not over. France’s vibrant culture will follow students back to the classroom…and beyond!
