Though more frequently known for its tightly packed high rises and urban glitz, Hong Kong also boasts some of the best-preserved nature parks in the Greater China area.

This itinerary is designed for maximum exposure to both the metropolitan side of Hong Kong – taking city trams, and visiting markets, as well as the breathtaking natural and spiritual sites – going to see the Tian Tan Buddha, kayaking in the ocean, skim boarding, and hiking up the jaw dropping Lion’s Rock peak. Additionally, students will enjoy a boating excursion amongst the floating markets and villages of Tai O, stopping off to boat into deeper ocean where Pink Dolphins make their home. Finally, students will also visit Macao, a former colony of Portugal to sight-see vestiges of the occupation and to stroll along Macao’s glamorous casino districts (note: students will not be allowed to enter the casinos).

Our school trips are completely customizable and can be tailored to meet your requirements. Want to visit Hong Kong & Macao but with a different subject focused themes such as culture, Mandarin, geography, STEM, art or music? Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Hong Kong

Arrive in Hong Kong – the start of your IB CAS school trip! Here, you’ll meet your Adventure Leader, who’ll help you transfer to your hotel in the heart of the city.

Once students are settled, we’ll head off out on a short walking tour of the surrounding area. Alongside learning more about the local area, students will be briefed on expectations and safety guidelines for the week’s activities.

We’ll then end your first day in Hong Kong in style, by taking the tram up to Victoria Peak for stunning views over the city and harbour below.

Day 2: Lantau Island

Today we escape the metropolis to visit Lantau Island – and take the Ngong Ping 360 to visit the Big Buddha! This cable car ride was described by CNN as one of the world’s top ten cable car rides, and it’s not hard to see why. Stretching for over 5 kilometers, you’ll get incredible views as you soar over Hong Kong’s mountains.

Next, it’s off to Tai O, a fishing town located on an island of the same name, for a look at how traditional boating communities live in the area. Here, you’ll take a short boat trip where, if you’re incredibly lucky, there’s a chance to see endangered pink dolphins.

Finally, it’s down to the beach, where students can learn to ocean kayak or skim-board on the pristine coastlines of Lantau!

Day 3: Macau

Today’s early start is in service of an unmissable day trip to Macau! We’ll head down to the Hong Kong-Macau ferry terminal this morning, for a roughly two-hour transfer to the island.

A former colony of Portugal, Macau is well-known for beautiful culinary traditions – like egg tarts – and the stunning colonial architecture. It’s here that your group has two options on how to spend your day: if you’re looking to explore the area, you can take a guided tour. However, if you’re looking for some more immersive adventure, students can try our 1-day Macau challenge – an Amazing Race-style adventure!

We’ll transfer back to Hong Kong this evening, just in time to head to Temple Street Market, where you’ll explore the hustle and bustle of the city at night – and even pick up a souvenir or two.

Day 4: Hong Kong

This morning, students take a challenging yet rewarding trek as they complete the Lion’s Rock Hike! On route, they’ll get the chance to see macaque monkey colonies in their natural habitats (your guide will be sure to brief you on how best to observe them safely) before we break for a packed lunch overlooking Kowloon and the whole Hong Kong.

We’ll head back to let everyone get refreshed at your accommodation, before we mobilize for the most important part of the IB CAS school trip – service work in Hong Kong. Students will spend the afternoon assisting with a local project to help give back to the communities that have hosted them this week.

(Note: Projects depend on need and availability, and options include working with underprivileged children, the elderly, and urban clean-ups. However, if you already have a project in mind, let us know when you enquire.)

Day 5: Farewell

Sadly, today marks the end of your IB CAS school trip to Hong Kong – so it’s time to head home.

If you’ve got time before your flight, we’ll take you on one last visit to Stanley Market, a beautiful market right on the beach. We’ll then transfer back to the airport, ready to head home.
