In many countries, handcrafting techniques are facing extinction as aging practitioners struggle to find willing apprentices. In Japan, however, many traditional crafts \u2013 from the hand-whittling of Buddhist rosaries to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8aU_l8gZr3I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">intricate process of candle-making<\/a> \u2013 continue to thrive.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The country is also a forerunner in modern art and design; its boldly minimalistic aesthetic approach imitated and aspired to around the world. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/the-learning-adventure.10web.cloud\/en-us\/trip\/art-school-trip-japan\/\">Art and Design-focused school trip in Japan<\/a> allows students to explore the work of practitioners using both traditional and modern techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here we bring you a bit more information about the trip, as well as suggesting how teachers and students can make the most out of the itinerary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Visit_a_leading_animation_college\"><\/span>Visit a leading animation college<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tokyo Animation College offers a broad range of courses from Voice Acting and Video Game Production to Anime Illustration and Character Design. On the second day of this trip, students will have the chance to see students and staff at work as they take a guided tour of the campus in the Kasai neighbourhood of Tokyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_questions_and_activities_for_students\"><\/span>Key questions and activities for students<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have you found that Japan\u2019s attitude and approach to animation differs to that of your home country?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try sketching your own character based on the stylised anime aesthetic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Meet_a_renowned_calligrapher_and_attend_a_calligraphy_lesson\"><\/span>Meet a renowned calligrapher and attend a calligraphy lesson<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On Day 3, students will visit the studio of Koshun Masunaga, a renowned artist who lives and works in Tokyo. Masunaga-sensei uses India ink to create bold, expressive works; putting her own spin on the Ancient Japanese art of shod\u014d (calligraphy).
