Geography School Trip to Morocco

Although geographically close to much of Europe, Morocco offers a rich cultural diversity, making it an ideal destination for young students to explore both mountainous and desert landscapes, while delving into questions of human geography and experiencing the unique traditions of North African culture. On a Learning Adventure to Morocco, our goal is to cultivate this learning through a diverse itinerary – from the bustling streets of Marrakesh to the serenity of the Atlas Mountains.

Our school trips are completely customizable and can be tailored to meet your requirements. Speak to a specialist now to find out more – or view all of our geography school trips here.

Day 1: Welcome to Marrakesh

Touch down in Marrakesh Airport for the start of your geography school trip to Morocco, where our Adventure Leader will greet you and help you transfer to your accommodation. Along the way, they’ll provide a full safety briefing, and give students some more information on the area.

After checking in and getting settled, you’ll head out to explore the bustling souks – open air markets that would have once been home to the many merchant traders who passed through the city.

This evening, students will visit the traditional berber or ‘amazigh’ music museum, housed in a beautifully restored 16th-century Saadian house. They’ll hear from the owner on the restoration process, and then witness a live and interactive performance of traditional music – followed by an authentic Moroccan meal on the roof terrace.

Day 2: Atlas Mountains

This morning, head towards the Atlas Mountains, for a chance to explore the Ourika Valley with a local guide. En route, you’ll stop off a chance to taste of Moroccan tea, and groups will also pay a visit to a women’s cooperative to see how they process aghan nuts to make the famous aghan oil – one of Morocco’s most important exports.

Once you’ve arrived at the Ourika Valley, it’s time for students to get in amongst some incredible natural landscapes. They’ll head on an energetic hike up to the Valley’s waterfall, where they’ll observe firsthand key features of the water cycle, earth formations, and structures formed by plate tectonics.

Once back at sea level, you’ll depart bound for the fascinating Bahia Palace. Here, students can explore the Palace’s stunning courtyards, learning about the building’s unique history – and how it relates to Morocco’s complicated geopolitical relationship with France.

Finally, head to Café Clock for a contemporary Moroccan meal… including a camel burger, if you’re feeling brave!

Day 3: Marrakesh

After breakfast, students spend the morning riding camels – or, more accurately, dromaderies. A mode of transport for over a thousand years. dromaderies are bred to carry cargo, so hop on a hump and venture across the sandy Agafay Desert in style. Traditional dress and Moroccan tea will be provided to add to the experience.

In the afternoon, we’ll head to the labyrinthine Jardin Majorelle and its three accompanying museums – the Islamic Art Museum, the Berber Museum, and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum.

Day 4: Farewell

Sadly, today marks the end of your geography school trip to Morocco. You’ll transfer back to the airport, and prepare to head home.
