Welcome to Delhi, and the start of your Golden Triangle school trip to India! You’ll be greeted at the airport by your Adventure Leader, who’ll help you transfer to your accommodation and get settled in. Along the way, they’ll give you a trip briefing, where you’ll learn more about what the next week holds for your students, as well as top tips on staying safe and travelling well in India.
Once you’re into your hotel, we’ll take students out to help you all acclimatise to your new surroundings – with a city tour! We’ll give you a whistle-stop trip around the city, pointing out some of the key sites – but tomorrow, students will get a fully in-depth historical exploration of both New and Old Delhi.
After breakfast, it’s time for a day tour of Old and New Delhi.
We’ll start in Old Delhi as we explore the Chandni Chowk – the bustling bazaar of the area, as well as the Red Fort, where students can wander the sprawling fort of red sand stones along the river Yamuna.
Following your exploration of the Red Fort, we’ll take a rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes, spice market and street food market. Then, before we grab lunch, students will visit the Jama Masjid, the largest and most magnificent mosque in India.
In the afternoon, it’s time to explore New Delhi. Along the way, students will explore some of the most important sites in the city, including India Gate, Parliament House, President Estate and Gandhi Smriti. We’ll finish up the day with a visit to one of the most prominent Sikh gurdwaras in Delhi.
This morning, we set off to our next destination: Agra!
Once we’ve arrived, there’s time to settle into your new accommodation before students visit India’s most prized monument: the Taj Mahal. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, it was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz.
We’ll follow up this once-in-a-lifetime visit with the chance to see some more of Agra’s most beautiful locations. Next, we’ll head to Agra Fort, a design masterpiece that houses a number of exquisite buildings.
We’ll also explore a local marble factory to learn more about the region’s craftsmanship. While here, students can be sure to take a look at the factory’s marble inlay work – the same art that lines the walls of the Taj Mahal.
Students then get to grips with another of the area’s handcraft traditions in a hands-on demonstration: Zardozi embroidery. Dating all the way back to the 14th century, this embroidery style uses metal threads to adorn clothing, and was once used to adorn the Kings and royals of India.
After a busy day, students head back to the hotel to rest up – but we’ll treat them to a private magic show to end the day in style.
This morning, your group will transfer to Jaipur!
Arriving in the afternoon, we’ll get settled in our next accommodation, and then head out to see the city walls, which circle all of Jaipur. Dating back to the early eighteenth century, it once safeguarded the entire city.
After an early breakfast, get ready for half-day sightseeing at the UNESCO World Heritage Amber Fort. Located on a hillside overlooking Maota Lake, this architectural feat is painted in vibrant yellows and pinks, and dates back to the late sixteenth century.
Once back in the city, it’s time to explore the bustling streets. Jaipur is known as a shopper’s paradise, famous for its jewelry, carpets, block printing textiles, furniture, antiques, spices, pottery and so much more, so take a wander and find a souvenir to bring back home!
After a stop for lunch, students will head to explore City Palace – the heart of the old city. Currently the principal residence of the Indian Royal Family, it’s renowned for its incredible bursts of colour – from vibrant blue and white courtyards to the opulent pink exterior.
We’ll close out the day with an impressive sound & light show in Jaipur, which explores the region’s history – with great fanfare!
After breakfast, it’s time to head back to Delhi.
As we’ll be travelling for most of the day, this evening we’ll remain in the accommodation so students can rest up ahead of their journey home tomorrow. Here, there will be a chance to come together for a reflection session. Through discussion, listening and guided thought, participants can process their experiences, digest new ideas and consider what they have learned about the region, its people and themselves during the trip.
Sadly, today marks the end of your amazing school trip to India! After checking out of your accommodation in Delhi, you’ll transfer to the airport, ready to head home.
