Stop off at a local Roman’s house. Learn about how mosaics were used in the past and make a mosaic souvenir for yourself!

Afternoon

Relax with a scenic lunch near the magnificent Colosseum. Squeeze in a visit to see the Michelangelo statue at the Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli, too. Enjoy a guided visit to the Colosseum and Roman Forum and take part in the Learning Adventure photo competition. There are so many interesting facts about these ancient sites – did you know the Colosseum was used to stage ‘naumachia’? They’d fill the theatre up with water and hold real naval battles.

Evening

After dinner, walk down the Via del Circo Massimo for beautiful views of the Palatine Hill before visiting the Garden of Oranges for superb views of the Vatican.

Wave a sad goodbye to Rome and a happy hello to Florence.

Afternoon

Once you’re off the train and checked into your accommodation, embark on a tour of the city. First stop, the Galleria dell’Accademia. This is your chance to stand face-to-face with Michelangelo’s Statue of David, as well as a whole host of other statues and sculptures.

Evening

There’s no better way to fall in love with Florence than with its food. Sample some traditional Florentine cuisine and watch the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo, where you’ll have fantastic views over the city.

Start your day examining works in the Galleria degli Uffizi, one of the most important art museums in Italy. Marvel at the collection of Renaissance paintings.

Afternoon

Make your way into the Florentine countryside, where you’ll learn the art of creating beautiful Florentine marbled paper.

Roll up your sleeves for a traditional pottery painting class. Learn all about the painting technique called majolica, then follow step-by-step instructions as you paint a plate with an original design from the 15^th century.

Afternoon

Back to Rome! Get from the station to your accommodation, and tuck into your final Italian dinner, followed by some exciting evening entertainment: a stand-up comedy show!

It might be home time, but it’s not over. Italy’s rich and varied art will follow you back to the classroom…and beyond!

Bologna time. Once you’re off the train, notice the stopped clock above the entrance of the station to commemorate the hour that a terrorist bombing took place there. Then, brush up on your general knowledge of the city with your tour guide.

Check in, then take a walking tour of the city. Indulge on tasters of mortadella and coffee in the university district. Next, climb up the Asinelli Tower for mesmerising panoramic views – pick out parts of the city you’ve already seen and try work out where you’re going next!

Today, you’re an art restorer. Learn about various execution techniques and different constitutive features of materials. Find out about art preservation problems, with specific attention to the works you’ll see in the laboratory.

Treat yourself to an evening full of entertainment as you watch an opera or dance performance at the Teatro Comunale.

Gain insight into Bologna’s communist background and look at local artists’ work at Museo MAMbo.

Afternoon

Transfer back to Rome by train. It’s the end of your Learning Adventure!
